My Work Journey
How I got to where I am
My most recent work is my best, but I appreciate the value in understanding how I got here.
Head-First into Freelancing
Started freelance writing on Fiverr while still at uni and working at the Co-op (I don't miss cycling 30 mins in the dark for 6am starts!). Built my profile, collected (100+ five-star) reviews, and took on all kinds of writing projects. This taught me the fundamentals of client work and content creation.

My Own Website & New Client Work
Started what would become Freelance Ready (originally called Sophical Content). Slowed down Fiverr work and ghostwrote 200+ hotel website descriptions for a small writing agency between classes. When that famous virus hit, I started writing for Flow Racers, and over the next few years wrote and edited 2+ million words of blog content.

Learning While Doing
Gradually took on more responsibilities with Flow Racers and faced countless Google updates head-on. Writing, editing, helping assess new writers, creating custom images, working with hundreds of media files, and navigating Google guidelines. All while using those learnings to improve my own site, hire writers and editors for that, and grow it to nearly 2k visitors per month. AND all while graduating from uni with a first-class degree. Big year.

Scaling Up Content Production
Continued with Flow Racers while also working on four other websites for the same brand. Built the team up to 20+ writers and editors at one point across those five websites. First real experience with content scaling and being at the heart of it, editing content on niches from motorsport to coin collecting (truly a jack of all trades).

Semrush & Strategic Growth
Stopped working with Flow Racers and put more time into Freelance Ready. Started my next chapter working as a fact checker for Semrush, and by year's end transitioned to Senior Content Editor. Grew my freelancing blog to 22k visitors by August 2023, and started to really understand what quality content looked like in the AI era.

Migration & New Ventures
Migrated my site completely by myself from Sophical Content to FreelanceReady.com in January. I deleted a load of posts and narrowed the focus to freelancing (lost a lot of traffic in the process, though it's slowly recovering). Started offering SEO consultancy through Chris Hanna SEO, and had my first dabble with paid ads. Also started working with Backlinko as an editor, quickly helping out with writer recruitment and content strategy too.

Writing, Editing & First Video
Took on even more responsibilities at Backlinko, helping foster team collaboration and getting more of my content published on the blog, along with my first YouTube video. Continued as editor for Semrush, attended Semrush Spotlight, and got to meet some really cool people in the industry.

My Best Year Yet
In 2026, I took on more writing projects for the Semrush blog and I started recording regular tutorial videos for the YouTube channel (see portfolio section), alongside some content strategy work. I also started actively trying to grow my own personal brand, as always while taking on fun new projects and learning new skills.

Expertise
What I Actually Do
Services, skills, and tools
Content Creation
These are the four ways I help brands create high-value content that converts readers into customers
Video Creation
I create how-to videos that showcase how users can get the most out of products and tools. My style is to make the viewer feel like they're being guided through the process one-on-one with a consultant. The end result is a video that feels polished but natural, with two goals: educate and convert.
Content Writing
I write articles and how-to guides that help readers solve a specific problem or understand a specific idea. My style is to write like I'm explaining something to a friend, keeping it clear, direct, and free of fluff. The end result is content that feels credible and easy to act on, building trust with your audience and driving them to take action.
Content Editing
I edit drafts to sharpen the message, tighten the structure, and make sure every sentence serves a purpose. My style is to preserve the writer's voice while removing anything that slows the reader down or muddies the waters. The end result is content that reads smoothly and holds attention from start to finish, convincing them to keep reading and take action.
Content Strategy
I build content plans that connect what a brand wants to say with what its audience actually wants to know (or buy). My style is all about knowing your brand inside out before I start, so I can actually map out a content plan that aligns with your goals. The end result is a strategy that gives your teams clear direction with nobody left asking “why are we creating this piece of content?”
Growth Enablement
These are the four ways I can help you grow your brand's efficiency and online presence
SEO & AI SEO
I optimize content so it ranks well in Google and shows up in the AI tools your customers are using. My style is to focus on tactics we know work, not jumping on trends with no evidence of real impact. The end result is content that gets found by the right people, whether they're searching on Google or asking an AI assistant.
Competitor Research
I dig into what your competitors are doing well, where they're falling short, and what gaps you can fill that they haven't touched yet. My style is to go beyond surface-level reports and get specific about what's actually working for them, so you're not just copying their moves but improving on them. The end result is a clear picture of where you stand and where the opportunities are, and a prioritized list of ones to act on.
Writer Training
I train writers to hit a brand's voice, meet quality standards, and work efficiently without needing constant hand-holding. My style is to give clear, specific feedback and practical frameworks writers can actually apply, not vague notes that leave them confused and slowed down. The end result is a team of writers who consistently deliver strong content and get better with every revision round.
Content Operations
I build systems and workflows that keep content teams moving efficiently, from briefs to publishing to reporting. My style is to use AI responsibly and effectively throughout the process, and to build tools that streamline the repetitive parts of the workflow so teams can focus on what actually needs a human touch. The end result is a content operation that runs smoothly and scales as your business grows.

High-Value Client Work
Most of my work over the past ~3 years has been for the leading SEO and AI visibility SaaS platform, Semrush. And by extension, I've also done a lot of work for Backlinko, one of the most well-known and well-loved SEO and marketing websites on the internet.
Check out my written work for them below, along with my videos for both YouTube channels.

How My Work Has Evolved
Many content creators might not want to draw too much attention to their earliest work, but I think this helps you see how far I've come as a creator. (It also just makes my newer stuff look way better 😅)
